ACNE SKINCARE IN THE WINTER TIME
Caring for acne-prone skin during the winter requires a balance between addressing acne concerns and preventing excessive dryness. The cold weather and low humidity can affect your skin, potentially leading to increased dryness, discomfort and sensitivity.
Here are some tips for acne care during the winter:
1. Smart, Gentle Cleansing
Use tepid water instead of warm will ensure that you do not get “squeaky” clean, aka strip your barrier.
2. Exfoliate
Carefully exfoliate so that you don’t strip your skin barrier.
3. Hydrate, Inside Out
Drink plenty of liquid, use a hydrating toner and humidifier to add moisture to the air in your home, especially while you sleep.
4. Acne Treatment
Whether you are using Benzoyl Peroxide, BHA or AHAs, it is important to adjust the frequency based on your skin's needs.
5. Spot Treat
If you are feeling overly dry, when possible, spot treat with the Blemish Control Gel instead of treating the entire face.
6. Moisturize
In order to have comfortable feeling skin, moisturizing is paramount. Choose a non-comedogenic, lightweight moisturizer that will coat your skin and protect it from the dry, cold environment.
7. Sun Protection
Use sunscreen daily to protect your skin from UV damage.
8. Diet
Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole foods. Avoid comfort foods that are traditionally high in carbs, sugar and bad fats. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts may help reduce inflammation.
